Integration of a digital twin to support design and safety studies for the XAMR®
CONTEXT AND CHALLENGES
The client is a start-up, which aims to develop a low-power, molten-salt Generation IV reactor, the XAMR® (eXtra-small Advanced Modular Reactor). This can be deployed as close as possible to consumers of electrical energy and/or heat, both in France and abroad.
In this context, the client has commissioned Assystem to produce a digital twin, deploy systems engineering methods, produce studies for the prototype reactor's reception facility and support the safety teams in producing studies and defining the safety approach.
Project Scope
PLM deployment of the 3D EXPERIENCE
- Administration of the 3DX platform to support reactor design studies
- Exploration and configuration of applications to meet business needs
Supervision of systems engineering methods
- Advising and supporting the choice of systems engineering methods to be implemented on the programme
- Monitoring the work, providing local support for systems engineers and checking compliance with the chosen methods
Reinforcing safety
- Providing expertise to the Safety and Security Department to prepare for meetings with the Nuclear Safety Authority
- A team integrated into the project management's safety team to carry out preliminary risk and aggression analyses, and to manage and support systems for FMEAs*.
Carrying out studies for the test centre
- Production of a sketch of the building to house the prototype reactor
- Proposal for the preliminary design of the prototype reactor building
- Preliminary design studies: ventilation (nuclear), ILVS(S)/HVS**, fluids, mechanics and processes)
Reinforcing ISS*** and PMO**** capabilities
*FMEA: Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
**ILVS(S)/HVS : Industrial Low-Voltage Systems (Security) / High-Voltage Systems
***ISS: Information Systems Security
****PMO: Project Management Office
Results
- Centralised product design with the deployment of a digital twin, providing descriptive modelling capabilities (functional, 3D), traceability between project data and simulation
- Strengthened customer teams with expertise in the nuclear sector (design, safety) and systems engineering
- Optimised design times and more reliable studies due to the deployment of systems engineering methods
