Assystem Secures Validation from the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to Power Short-term Emissions Reduction Goals
16 December 2024
Assystem, a global leader in nuclear engineering and an expert in digital solutions and project management, today announces that its short-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The approval demonstrates Assystem's commitment to acting in line with scientific climate recommendations to actively contribute to accelerating its energy transition mission and fight against climate change.
An Ambition Aligned with Global Goals
Assystem is committed to significantly reducing its emissions:
- Reduction of absolute emissions for Scopes 1 and 2: A 42% decrease by 2030 compared to the 2022 baseline.
- Reduction of Scope 3 emissions: A 51.6% decrease per full-time equivalent (FTE) employee over the same period.
The SBTi assessed that Assystem's ambition for scopes 1 and 2 aligns with a trajectory compatible with the warming limitation objectives set by the Paris Agreement.
Moreover, these commitments cover all sources of emissions, particularly those related to energy consumption, business travel, and commuting, as well as those associated with purchased goods and services, especially online.
Accelerating the switch to low-carbon energy
Assystem places the fight against climate change and the reduction of carbon emissions at the core of its DNA. By supporting the development of low-carbon electricity and integrating sustainable practices into its operations, the company positions itself as a key player in the energy transition sector.
The fight against climate change demands collective action. As advocates of the energy transition towards low-carbon energy, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint as a natural extension of our mission. The validation of our goals by the SBTi therefore confirms our determination as a leading international nuclear engineering company to play a central role in the energy transition industry.
The validation also reaffirms the company's commitment to actively contributing to the emergence of a sustainable and resilient society. Working alongside its clients, suppliers, and all stakeholders, Assystem is focused on building a low-carbon, environmentally respectful future.
About the Science Based Targets initiative
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. We develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest. The SBTi is incorporated as a charity, with a subsidiary which will host our target validation services. Our partners are CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
