Nuclear power is set to play a critical role in delivering the UKs secure and low-carbon economy, and through this sponsorship Assystem is invested in supporting the industry’s young talent to grow as future leaders of this exciting and important sector.
The YGN is the young member’s network of the Nuclear Institute (NI) and the annual seminar is the opportunity for members to connect and discuss the future of the nuclear sector, including understanding the future nuclear landscape and their role within it.
Those beginning their careers in nuclear power today will be the generation that will lead the delivery of up to 24 GW of new nuclear power critical to the UKs Net Zero goal. Their opportunities in nuclear not only concern bringing planned new nuclear power to the grid but also the development of new nuclear technologies such as SMRs and AMRs. They will also drive the UKs decommissioning programme.
Our commitment to supporting young nuclear talent
Assystem has long been committed to championing the next generation of nuclear talent. For example, Assystem’s Switch to Grow UK Graduate Scheme seeks to develop those entering nuclear for the first time through a dedicated rotational department programme where graduates can build their knowledge and professional development through on the job training, formal learning and by engaging in its unique Switchers community.
Every year Assystem also supports more than 300 interns as well as work-placement students to help kick-start their careers in the nuclear sector. Part of this experience offers them freedom and resources to discover their industry potential through diverse assignments on innovative and purposeful projects.

Nuclear Institute Young Generation Nuclear Network
The YGN is the young member’s network of the Nuclear Institute (NI). The NI is the Professional Body and Learned Society for the Nuclear Sector in the UK, offering routes to professional registration with the Engineering and Science Councils and the Society for the Environment. Any member of the NI under the age of 37 becomes part of the Young.
