Assystem awarded PMC contract to support the CELTIC Interconnector project
18 April 2023
Assystem has been awarded a PMC contract by the CIDAC Joint Venture (RTE/EirGrid) to assist them, for the next three years, in the design and construction of the French converter station for the Celtic Interconnector project.
The Celtic Interconnector project to exchange electricity between France and Ireland
The aim of this project is to create a direct current electricity link enabling the direct exchange of electricity between France and Ireland. Each country is to build a converter station to provide the AC/DC conversion necessary to transmit electricity between the two countries. These facilities require an area of approximately 5 hectares, including a building which will be up to 20 meters high and spread over approximately 0.5 hectares.
Assystem uses its expertise in managing complex energy projects and its mastery of digital tools
The contract is to assist CIDAC in the conformity of the requirements, steering and managing the design and construction for the conversion station. Assystem will deploy bespoke digital solutions to automatically extract, classify and rationalise project data.
Assystem will leverage its expertise in managing complex energy and power projects and its mastery of digital tools to successfully complete this project. This contract is another important step for Assystem in the deployment of its project management offer in the power grid and complex infrastructure sector.
Thomas Branche, Assystem's SVP Engineering, said: "The energy transition will increase electricity consumption and so electrical networks will need to be robust and efficient to meet this demand. Assystem is proud to support the CIDAC consortium in the CELTIC Interconnector project, which will enable the direct exchange of electricity with Ireland and the integration of offshore wind farms."
