Job Description
About the Role:
Assystem is seeking a skilled and experienced WIC Engineer to support the Wrapping, Insulation, and Caulking scope within the prestigious Hinkley Point C project. This role will be embedded in the MEH (Mechanical, Electrical & HVAC) Programme, focusing on engineering deliverables, qualification, and installation activities to ensure the successful integration of WIC systems into the plant. You will work closely with the WIC Project Manager but focus on the technical and engineering aspects of the WIC scope.
Much of the scope will need to be brought from initial design & tendering phase, all the way through to completion and handover, the types of products being considered, and where it would be useful for you to have some experience in will be:
Wrapping:
- Thermal Insulation Wrapping
- Fire-Resistant Wrapping
- Acoustic Wrapping
- Corrosion Protection Wrapping
- Radiation Protection Wrapping.
Insulation:
- Reflective Metal Insulation (RMI)
- Calcium Silicate Insulation
- Mineral Wool / Rock Wool
- Glass Wool / Fiberglass
- Perlite Insulation
- Foam Glass Insulation
- Ceramic Fiber Insulation
- Polyurethane Foam Insulation
- Microporous Insulation
Caulking (Passive Fire Protection):
- Fire-Resistant Caulking
- Firestop Systems
- Fire-Resistant Coatings (Intumescent Paints)
- Fire-Resistant Boards and Panels
- Fire-Rated Doors and Windows
- Fire-Resistant Ductwork and Dampers
- Fire-Resistant Compartmentalization (Fire Walls and Barriers)
- Fireproof Cladding and Insulation
- Fire-Resistant Glazing
- Fire-Resistant Sealants (e.g., Fire-Resistant Foam)
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineering Deliverables: Work with the wider stakeholders to quantify scope and understand the requirements related to wrapping, insulation, and caulking, and the wider Passive Fire Protection requirements, ensuring compliance with project specifications and EDF Nuclear New Build (NNB) standards.
- Qualification and Installation: Oversee the qualification and installation of Passive Fire Protection and WIC systems, ensuring that all activities meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Support: Provide support throughout the full lifecycle of WIC work packages, from initial design and qualification to installation and final handover.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure that all WIC activities comply with nuclear safety standards, and maintain clear and comprehensive engineering documentation in line with NNB procedures.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders, including design teams, subcontractors, and installation teams, to ensure smooth delivery of engineering tasks.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve technical issues that may arise during installation and commissioning, escalating significant concerns when necessary to ensure they are addressed promptly.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all WIC systems meet the required quality standards through rigorous testing, validation, and inspection during both qualification and installation phases.
- Support to Project Management: Work alongside the Project Manager to ensure that engineering tasks are aligned with project timelines, budgets, and resource plans.
My profile
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of fire regulations, including but not limited to sub-surface regulations, nuclear specific codes, and ideally RCC-F French codes.
- 3+ years of experience in the engineering and installation of wrapping, insulation, and caulking systems, ideally within the nuclear or energy sectors.
- Experience in qualification processes and the installation requirements for high-risk environments, such as nuclear or highly regulated industries.
- Solution-oriented and self-driven individual with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners.
- Willingness to travel to the site as needed, with the role initially based at the SDC 3 or 4 days a week but transitioning to the construction site as the project progresses. Typically the teams spend a day a week working remotely, if the project requirements permit.
- Familiarity with NNB procedures and nuclear safety standards.
