Job Description

Senior Waste Engineer – Warrington / West Cumbria – Permanent

🌟 Your Future Team:

Assystem is a prominent player in the nuclear decommissioning sector, partnering with the Design Services Alliance and providing waste management services to strategic nuclear clients in the UK. Our services include life extension and feasibility assessment.

🎯 Your Missions:

Provide Assystem and our customers with authoritative waste management and characterization advice. Prepare and review waste and characterisation documentation in support of decommissioning projects, including:

  • 📊 Characterisation Status Reports
  • 🏭 Facility & Waste Characterisation Plans
  • 📋 Facility & Project Waste Management Plans
  • 📦 Waste Inventory Management
  • 📜 Technical Reports and Presentations

🔧 Your Responsibilities:

  • 🔬 Expert Advice: Provide authoritative waste management and characterisation guidance.
  • 📄 Documentation: Prepare and review Characterisation Status Reports, Waste Management Plans, and Technical Reports.
  • 🇬🇧 Regulatory Knowledge: Understand the UK regulatory framework for waste and characterisation.
  • 🔗 Supply Chain: Know the radioactive waste supply chain and NWS framework.
  • 📝 Bid Insights: Contribute waste and characterisation expertise to bids.
  • Project Planning: Estimate durations and costs for planned work.
  • 🏆 Champion: Promote waste-informed decommissioning and sustainable management.
  • 🔧 Studies: Lead BAT and optioneering studies.
  • 👥 Customer Liaison: Act as the main contact with customers, including potential secondments.
  • 🎓 Training: Provide training and coaching to staff and contractors.
  • 💡 Resource Management:
  • Implement BAT and manage resources effectively.
  • 📊 Data Quality: Utilize the Data Quality Objective (DQO) method of characterisation.

My profile

🎓 Qualifications/Experience Required:

  • 📘 Degree in a scientific or engineering-based subject or relevant experience in waste or characterisation engineering
  • 🎓 Certificate of competence to act as a Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA)
  • 🚚 Transport of Class 7 by Road Level 2 or Level 3
  • 📜 Chartered status
  • 🌍 In-depth knowledge of disposal and treatment routes for wastes in the UK and overseas
  • 📖 Thorough understanding of legislation and frameworks impacting waste management in the UK
  • 🧪 Understanding of characterisation methodology for radioactive and non-radioactive wastes, including the Data Quality Objectives and Data Quality Assessment processes
  • 👥 Ability to lead small teams and mentor junior team members
  • 🚛 Experience with the transport of Class 7 materials and wastes by road
