🚀 Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! 🚀 Assystem has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in valves to join our expanding Fusion and Modular Nuclear (FMN) business unit. As leaders in the design and development of new technologies, you will have the opportunity to work across multiple cutting-edge projects developing technical solutions making net-zero power generation a reality.

Your mission:

  • 🔧 Innovative Valve & Actuator Development: Lead the product development of valves and actuators for the Rolls-Royce SMR power station, utilizing cutting-edge knowledge and technology.
  • 📜 Comprehensive Deliverables: Provide through-life assessments, Component Safety Classifications, age management plans, requirements modules, and product selection.
  • 👩‍💼 Engineering Leadership: Proven track record in managing and leading engineering teams effectively.
  • 🗣️ Clear Communication: Excellent verbal skills for precise and impactful technical discussions.
  • ✍️ High-Quality Documentation: Expertise in producing, reviewing, and approving high-standard technical documents.
  • ⚠️ Risk Management Expertise: Skilled in preparing thorough Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • 📦 Work Pack Development: Experienced in creating detailed and efficient work packs.
  • 🛑 Decommissioning Know-How: Valuable experience in decommissioning processes is welcomed.
  • 🏭 Regulated Industry Experience: Strong background in working within highly regulated environments such as Nuclear, Fusion, or Offshore Oil & Gas industries.

My profile

  • 📜 Education: Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent); a Master’s degree is a plus!
  • 🏗️ Experience: Proven engineering experience in highly regulated areas.
  • 📐 Standards Savvy: Familiarity with design codes like Eurocode 3, ASME III, ASME VIII, RCC-M, DNV codes.
  • 💻 Software Skills: Experience with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and/or Catia CAD software (training available).
  • 🔍 Analysis Expertise: Familiarity with FEA and preferably experience with ANSYS Workbench.
  • 📊 Math Whiz: Strong mathematical background and experience with MathCAD is desirable.
  • 🔄 Design Cycle Insight: Appreciation for the mechanical design cycle from concept to manufacture.
  • 📝 Hands-On: Responsible for producing mechanical and structural engineering calculations, FEA, CAD, and drawings.
  • 🛡️ Security: BPSS and SC required.
  • ✈️ Travel Ready: Ability to travel to Assystem offices and customer sites within the UK.
  • 🌍 Global Impact: Support major UK and international Nuclear Clients with key work packages.
