Job Description

Your Mission: The purpose of the role is to lead the High Voltage & Low Voltage electrical services for the Client in the planning, oversight, supervision, and assessment of the production of the infrastructure design documentation. This will include planning for and supporting integration with internal project stakeholder groups as well as external customer stakeholder groups.

Lead Electrical Engineer – Nuclear/Civil Infrastructure

We’re seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to manage and drive the delivery of key electrical projects within high-risk environments. This role focuses on electrical design, safety compliance, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure smooth project execution.

🔧 Typical Activities:

  • ⚙️ Attend design reviews, hazard workshops & project meetings.
  • 📑 Manage and review electrical engineering documentation.
  • 🤝 Lead stakeholder management and consultant coordination.
  • ✅ Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Quality (HSSEQ) standards.
  • 🔍 Oversee electrical design activities & conduct technical assessments of contractor work.
  • 🏗️ Supervise construction, commissioning & decommissioning activities to meet design intent.
  • 🔄 Support optioneering and technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
  • 📝 Review and approve project drawings, work instructions & risk assessments.

📋 Key Tasks:

  • 🔧 Lead working groups & design reviews with consultants/contractors.
  • 📘 Develop and manage Clyde Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
  • ✏️ Manage electrical design changes & present design substantiations to nuclear safety committees.
  • 🔧 Produce & develop Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules and safety reports.
  • 📊 Provide technical advice to stakeholders and ensure compliance with design and safety standards.
  • 🔬 Conduct independent technical and peer reviews (ITA/IPR) of electrical systems.
  • 🚧 Apply electrical engineering expertise in high-risk, nuclear, and civil environments.
  • 📑 Review technical reports, calculations & safety case submissions from external contractors.

🎯 What You’ll Bring:

  • 💡 Proven electrical engineering experience in high-risk industries (nuclear/civil preferred).
  • 👥 Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex electrical design projects.
  • 🛡️ Strong understanding of electrical safety, regulatory compliance & risk management.
  • ✏️ Experience with technical assessments, safety reports, and stakeholder management.

📚 Experience

Essential:

  • 💡 In-depth knowledge of current British & European design standards and practices.
  • ⚡ Expertise in High Voltage (HV) & Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems.
  • 🔧 Hands-on experience in concept design, detailed design, and construction stages across electrical projects (ideally industrial or maritime).
  • 🛠️ Proven experience in the design assessment of electrical plant & equipment to withstand hazards.
  • 📘 Skilled in specifying electrical systems and components for HV/LV networks at both 50Hz and 60Hz.
  • ✏️ Strong technical writing skills for producing justifications and documentation for electrical design modifications in high-hazard industries.
  • 🏭 Familiarity with industrial plant and machinery (e.g., pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA systems).
  • 🔄 Experience providing electrical engineering input to multi-discipline projects (defence or maritime preferred).

Desirable:

  • 🚢 Previous experience at HMNB Clyde or similar high-risk environments.
  • ⚠️ Familiarity with safety case development (e.g., HAZID/HAZOP studies).
  • ⚛️ Experience in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), especially in safety-related design and assessment.
  • 🔧 Knowledge of UK/US nuclear regulations and standards, with experience applying nuclear-specific codes.

🎓 Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • 🎓 BEng in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 🏅 Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • 🛡️ Safety case-related training.
