Job Description
As Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will provide support to all activities and deliverables
performed by the client design team towards the construction of a nuclear power plant. Those activities include:
- Mechanical design and integration into overall plant design
- Review and update of documentation, as well as formulating the mechanical, electrical, nuclear safety, and control logic requirements in compliance with the British engineering standards as well as client methodologies, quality processes, and tools
- Analysis and verification of input data, requirements, and lessons learnt
- from other teams.
- Sizing of components e.g. pumps, pipework, fans, tanks, performing
- thermal hydraulic calculation and modelling with in house or commercial tools
- Support to procurement team in formulation of technical specification and supplier surveillance
Modification and configuration management
- Managing requests for modifications to system(s) checking their applicability
- Develop and present technical solutions suitable for all impacted disciplines that support design stability strategy
- Solve technically challenging and multi-disciplinary open points in a timely proactive manner
Contribute to I&C design of systems including
- Applying engineering rules applicable for I&C design e.g. for platform allocation
- Defining the I&C functional requirements cascading the requirements from key safety inputs to ensure the safety case is respected
- Using the client’s I&C tools to define the I&C logic, develop test procedures and define the Human Machine Interface (HMI) in the Control Room
- Producing / updating the I&C aspects of the System Design Manual as required
- Performing technical peer reviews of I&C documents produced by other engineers in the team
Participation in the preparation to commissioning strategy of systems
- Attend kick off meeting and maturity reviews
- Produce updated documentation and / or redlines as required
- Support the commissioning teams with system inputs needed to the production of the documentation required for the commissioning sequence
- Proactive and positive engagement with all stakeholders around the systems to ensure the delivery of a product meeting the requirements set by all disciplines (layout, civil, hazard, nuclear safety, environment, configuration management, procurement …)
My profile
Essential:
- BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering degree
- 1-2 years’ of experience working in plant design / construction
- Good experience in mechanical design and develop of specifications
- Good understanding and use of Navisworks, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience in PDMS / Aveva E3D is a bonus but not mandatory
- Ability to effectively manage own workload in order to produce high quality documents and respect deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both written and orally, in English
- Proactive in developing positive working relations with others within the project
- Continuously looking for opportunities to improve quality of engineering studies and the subsequent documentation produced
Desirable:
- Knowledge of EPR system design principles, Instrumentation and Control architecture and Safety Classification
- Experience of working on an operating plant or on an industrial site
- Ability to speak and write technical documents in French
