Finding solutions to climate change is the priority of the 21st century, and means switching to low-carbon energy. At Assystem, our mission is to accelerate the energy transition worldwide. To achieve this, our 7,500 Switchers combine their historical engineering expertise and project management with digital technologies.
In our 12 countries (Europe, Middle East, Asia) of operation, we are working on the production and distribution of low-carbon electricity, through the development of nuclear and renewable energies. We are also supporting the modernisation and development of energy grids, managing the setup and siting for new transmission and distribution networks, and using hydrogen to decarbonise the transport and industry sectors.

About our Graduate Programme:
As a graduate at Assystem, from Day 1 you will be welcomed to the Assystem family, we will focus on getting you up to speed on what we do, our values, and what you can look forward to on our 2-year experience. Job Description:
At Assystem, our work sees us supporting a range of sectors and industries including Nuclear, Defence, Transport, Oil and Gas, Utilities and Government.
As part of our Nuclear Safety Case team, you will have the opportunity to work on range of exciting projects, supporting a variety of clients across the civil and defence nuclear sectors, including but not limited to:
- Helping to ensure the safe operation of the existing UK nuclear reactor fleet.
- Supporting the safe development and deployment of new large scale, Small Modular Reactor and Advanced Modular Reactor technologies to help meet the UK decarbonisation goals.
- Supporting the UK defence sector, including the nuclear submarine fleet and associated shore facilities.
- Helping to ensure the safe decommissioning of redundant nuclear assets and management of radioactive wastes.
- Supporting the UK Nuclear Fusion programme.
Responsibilities will include:
- Being an active contributor to safety case documentation and supporting assessments for high hazard facilities/plants
- Participating in hazard identification studies
- Assessing the impact of faults and hazards on nuclear facilities
- Supporting bid writing and project management activities
- Working with colleagues across the wider business, including engineering teams and Human Factors specialists, to deliver fully integrated design and safety solutions for our clients
- Supporting more senior colleagues and interaction with clients and regulators
- The opportunity to get involvement in Business Development activities, helping to build our relationships with clients and develop our technical capabilities
My profile
Essential:
- BSc or BEng (Hons) degree in a STEM subject
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- High level of IT proficiency, computer literacy, MS Office Suite
- Ability to think intuitively and creatively.
- Good written output and presentation skills
Desirable:
- An understanding / appreciation of the potential applications of nuclear technology and the associated societal benefits.
- Ability to apply mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems.
- Comfortable with site-based working, when required for projects (where possible we embrace virtual working).
- Enthusiasm to develop your safety case authorship skillset and to challenge yourself.
Requirements for Assystem Graduate Scheme:
- Successful Candidate must be a UK Sole National
- Successful Candidate must be willing to relocate as part of their rotational Scheme (Relocation Support available)
Security Clearance:
The successful applicant must be a UK resident and, due to the nature of the work to be undertaken, applicants will be required to meet this criteria in order to attain a minimum level of BPSS clearance.
