In our 12 countries (Europe, Middle East, Asia) of operation, we are working on the production and distribution of low-carbon electricity, through the development of nuclear and renewable energies. We are also supporting the modernisation and development of energy grids, managing the setup and siting for new transmission and distribution networks, and using hydrogen to decarbonise the transport and industry sectors.

About our Graduate Programme:

As a graduate at Assystem, from Day 1 you will be welcomed to the Assystem family, we will focus on getting you up to speed on what we do, our values, and what you can look forward to on our 2-year experience. Job Description:

At Assystem, our work sees us supporting a range of sectors and industries including Nuclear, Defence, Transport, Oil and Gas, Utilities and Government. You could work on process projects in both upstream and downstream industries in extraction, processing, and distribution.

As a Graduate Process Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will build up towards satisfying the following:

  • Develop / Assist in development safety and environmental management systems to ensure compliance to COMAH and the site Environmental permit.
  • Able to advocate for inherent process safety design and an understanding of risk and consequences.
  • Manage visiting contractors undertaking periodic maintenance and improvements to on-site safety and environmental equipment.
  • Data analysis of process operations, safety system demands site energy use and emissions.
  • Able to converse with highly technical professionals from a wide assortment of industry sectors and present technical solutions to non-technical personnel effectively.
  • Attend and contribute to process safety hazard analysis studies including HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, LOPA, Human Reliability Analysis, FMECA and others.
  • Attend lean production meetings on site to facilitate reduction of waste in business processes. Develop and manage key performance indicators for KPI development.
  • Support the project teams with safety and environmental queries and readiness tasks.
  • Where assigned, to manage and close HAZOP, LOPA, and safety study actions.
  • Field on site safety and environmental engineering queries

My profile

Essential:

  • BSc or BEng (Hons) degree in a STEM subject
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • High level of IT proficiency, computer literacy, MS Office Suite
  • Ability to think intuitively and creatively.
  • Good written output and presentation skills

Desirable:

  • A passion for the Process sector both in older and new technologies
  • Understanding / appreciation of the need for regulation of process safety
  • Experience identifying safeguards against hazards, failures and faults.
  • A keen interest in safety-led design principles
  • Ability to apply mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems.
  • Technical and problem-solving skills along with reasoning ability
  • Comfortable with site-based working, when required for projects.
  • Knowledge / appreciation of safety risk nomenclature such as ALARP and ALARA
  • Enthusiasm to develop your safety case authorship skillset and to challenge yourself.

Requirements for Assystem Graduate Scheme:

  • Successful Candidate must be a UK Sole National
  • Successful Candidate must be willing to relocate as part of their rotational Scheme (Relocation Support available) 

Security Clearance:

The successful applicant must be a UK resident and, due to the nature of the work to be undertaken, applicants will be required to meet this criteria in order to attain a minimum level of BPSS clearance.
